As part of our revised curriculum we would like to introduce forest school as a half day activity once a week. The concept is to allow children to develop new skills and build self-confidence through immersing themselves in an environment that is different to their usual classroom. It allows for all children to showcase skills that they may not have the opportunity to use on a normal school day and build new friendships with children that they may not often have the opportunity to work with.
The children will need to bring old clothes that you are happy for them to get dirty which they will change into at lunchtime. They will need a waterproof coat and appropriate footwear (wellies/old trainers/waterproof boots etc.) The day will focus on outdoor education including;
- PSHE/Scientific investigations
- Shelter building
- Nature studies
- Team building exercises
- Campfire cooking
- Knot tying skills and much, much more
The timetable for this Autumn Term is
Monday afternoon – Hawk Owl
Tuesday afternoon – Eagle Owl
Wednesday afternoon – Spotted Owl
Thursday afternoon – Tawny Owl
Friday afternoon – Barn Owl
This starts from Monday 10th September 2018.
If you have a specific skill or any resources that you think would lend themselves to our forest school days then please let us know.
