A message from Mr Beynon

I am pleased to say that we have had a productive start to the term, with children actively engaged in the first of the new curriculum gateways which focused on health and well-being.  This has included work on science and some artwork.  The next gateway is called Harvest and Hunger.  During the next two weeks our classes will be preparing for our Harvest Service in the Church on 11 October.  Following this you are invited to come into school and see our Art Exhibition which will celebrate the children’s work in relation to these first two curriculum gateways. We have also set time aside each day to focus on phonics (younger children), grammar and spelling (older children) and times tables.  Any help and encouragement you can give at home with hearing your child read (we ask for up to four times a week), support for homework tasks and allowing them to log onto TT Rock Stars will make a huge difference. We have a busy October planned with talks for Year 2 and Year 5 on Fire Safety; Toddler Group on Wednesdays; a new Tuning into Kids course, the choir singing at ASDA and school photographs. It is pleasing to see so many children with the correct school uniform and now only a very few have been asked to take their children home to change.  However, we still have a number of children who do not have the correct footwear and some who regularly forget their PE kit.  The parents of these children can expect to be contacted in the near future. Our work with community organisations continues with the POMs group looking for funds to run holiday and after school activities; the Link Centre holding a Halloween party in half term and the Riverside Church holding Messy Church sessions on the last Saturday of each month (28 September, 26 October and 30 November at 11am.)Categories: 1 CategorySchool News
